Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian Cysts are a formation in the form of a bladder with a liquid or semiliquid contents, which appears in the ovary structure and increases its volume several times.
The causes of ovarian cysts are not completely established. In the mechanism of development, cysts can play the role of disorders of gonadotropic hormones and apoptosis.
Functional cysts (follicular, luteal) are formed from the natural structures of the ovary - the follicle and the yellow body. Follicular cysts are a consequence of unplanned ovulation and the continued growth of the follicle. Luteal cysts (cysts of the yellow body) are the result of excessive accumulation of fluid in the yellow body, formed after ovulation. Functional cysts exist for a short time (up to 2-3 months) and independently disappear.
Endometrioid cysts (endometriomas) arise from endometriosis of the ovary. Monthly small bleedings from the focus of endometriosis lead to the formation in the ovary of a cavity filled with blood, which eventually thickens, darkens and becomes similar in consistence and color to liquid chocolate.
Cystic tumors are true tumors, but have external cysts. Cysts and cystic tumors can sometimes be distinguished only after histological examination. Cystic tumors include serous and mucinous cystadenomas, as well as mature teratomas (dermoid cysts).
