MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY
MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY, the first Russian university, founded in 1755 on the initiative of the outstanding scholar of the Enlightenment, Mikhail Lomonosov, whose unbalanced encyclopedic mind and energy gave the inner impetus to the project. From the very beginning, elitism was alien to the very spirit of our community, which determined the long democratic tradition of the university. Students, regardless of their background, have always been admitted to the university to become our illustrious alumni - renowned scientists and researchers. And students gather here, as they have always done, to study, to explore, to push the boundaries of knowledge.
Today, the emphasis is on the development of applied science: new materials, genetics, biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, cognitive science, ecology and information technology. We work hard to preserve our heritage and develop our tradition of an integrated approach to higher education and science. Moscow University has a rich academic history. But the core commitment remains the same as it has been for centuries: to provide outstanding teaching, scholarship and research. But what makes our university so vibrant is its intellectual spirit, coupled with an inexhaustible curiosity.
